Pre-Surgical Instructions

You should expect to spend a quiet day after your surgery; strenuous activity will have to be put off until at least the day after. Smoking is forbidden for 24 hours! Plan to eat soft foods to accommodate soreness and possible sutures (“stitches”). You should be aware that swelling or possible bruising can be expected, depending on your surgery. The use of a cold compress immediately after surgery will reduce swelling and bruising.

You will still be anesthetized (“frozen”) when you leave the office. If you wish to take medication for pain, taking one dose before the anesthetic wears off will help reduce discomfort. You will be given instructions on the day of your surgery telling you about home care and when you can resume normal brushing, rinsing and flossing.

If you wear a partial denture, mouthguard, orthodontic retainer, or any other oral appliance, please bring it with you so that we can assess any possible interferences with the surgical site.

Detailed post-operative instructions will be given to you on the day of your surgery. If you have any questions, please call us at the above number.
